Total Collected During The 2009/2010 Christmas Season: $1,165.39. That’s ~7284 lbs of food! Way To Go!
Thank you for your interest in our light display! The lights are our gift from the Hilton Family and InterFix Communications (Phil’s tech consulting business) to the community. We’re thrilled to see so many people excited by the display and hope it helps make the season brighter for everyone (pun 100% absolutely intended).
Many folks have come to us and thanked us for the display, and we think that’s great and love talking about the display with people. Some have even gone so far as to offer us things in appreciation, or offered to help out with the electric bill. While those are very nice gestures, we’d honestly much rather see you “pay it forward” and help others in need rather than focusing the attention on us.
Naturally at this time of year, we’re reminded of how blessed we all are in many ways, but also of the difficult times many families are facing. That’s why we’re asking for your support in helping out the Wilton Food Pantry.
The food pantry currently serves more than 115 families in need in the towns of Wilton, Weld, North Jay, and East Dixfield, and that number is always growing in these difficult times.
Donations of any kind are appreciated, but financial contributions are by far the most valuable. The same dollar you might spend on a can of food locally could be used by the food pantry to buy 6 cans through the Good Shepard Food Bank. A gift of $10 can provide 48 meals, or enough food to feed a family of three for two weeks!
Checks can be made out to “Wilton Lights” or the “Wilton Food Pantry” and there is a secure collection box on the back of our sign in front of the display. Please be careful crossing the street. It’s very busy. (The display, and by association the sign, is down for the off season however….) Alternatively, donations may be made right here via our website using the button below:
Please note that because our family is not registered as a 501c3 tax exempt charitable organization, PayPal (the service which processes the online donations) will collect a small portion of your donation as their fee. Because we had not realized this before January 6th, 2010 and thus had not posted that information to this site, we will cover the difference for all online donations received before that date so that the amount you donated is the amount which goes to the Food Pantry. Donations made after that date, however, will be passed on minus the fee PayPal has taken for themselves. The amount they take out is variable (flat rate plus percentage) but generally small. For example, at of the time of this writing it was 59 cents out of a $10.00 donation, and $1.75 out of a $50.00 donation. You can bypass that deduction entirely by mailing your donation directly to the Food Pantry (and we’ll post that address here as soon as we can confirm it). We will work on a way to bypass this issue for next year.
Thank you all so much for your generosity. May you be blessed during this wonderful time of year!
